Kempas
Latin name Koompassia malaccencis. They are grown on the Indochina Peninsula and in other regions of Southeast
Asia.
Characteristic The white of the kempas tree takes shades from white to yellow, while its harder in the natural state is pink.
Over time, the kempas wood darkens and turns brown. An interesting feature of this wood is also the fact that under the influence of moisture and air, its surface coincides
with something like a natural patina. White or silver coating does not affect the physical properties of wood in any
way, and if you do not like this visual effect, you can easily prevent this phenomenon by using care oils for wood
used outdoors. It is also worth adding that insects and microorganisms are not dangerous for Kempas. Technical parameters
It is characterized by high hardness and density - in the fresh state it is 1050 kg / m3 Moist at 12% - density is around 880 kg / m3. It is also characterized by relatively high resistance to moisture - it is classified in the second class in terms of
resistance to biodegradation. The durability of kempas wood in open garden architecture is from 20-40 years. Drying of this wood should be slow - due to the high content of oils it requires careful handling, because the risk
of cracks and deformations is really big in this case. Application
Kempas, as a wood with high hardness, is ideal for the production of floors and this is its most important
applications. Perfectly tolerates all conditions of use - both in interiors with high traffic, as well as in the garden
or on the terrace, where it is exposed to all types of adverse weather conditions.
